Unfinished

My desk is filled with beginnings-
Half-drawn pictures and unfinished poems-
Things I’ve started but never cared enough to end:
Glimpses of self-expression that linger anxiously,
Waiting to be completed
I collect them and wonder why I keep the halves and pieces
When I know they will be tossed away
And I realize it is because I do not want to share the same fate.
I hope that people will take pity on the incomplete
So I won’t have to worry that I will end up in a landfill
Before I can find what makes me whole.
I don’t want them to give up on me
Like I have given up on so many projects
So I’ll join the unfinished works
And wait until inspiration strikes
And someone finally completes me.
